Hazeeq Syahme Mohd Afzan

Team Lead, Field Operations Department

Hazeeq is a wildlife conservationist with a background in law. With more than three years in the field, his experience includes project management, organising and executing capacity building workshops for Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM)’s partners and stakeholders. His work mainly focuses on the understanding the criminal justice process specific to wildlife crime and the development of the prosecution capacity of wildlife enforcement agencies in Malaysia. Through his case tracking work, Hazeeq aims to identify gaps in the current prosecution and enforcement capacity. He can be contacted at hazeeq@justicewildlifemy.com.

Nur Atiqah Hanis Muhammad Tamrin

Team Lead, Operations Department

A BBA (Hons) graduate of UiTM Shah Alam, Hanis previously served at Jardine Lloyd Thompson (now Marsh Insurance Broker), handling claims management for international accounts. Her fascination with flowers inspired her to leave the corporate world behind, to explore and learn more about nature where she eventually found her way to wildlife conservation. Hanis’s conservation years in Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM) has allowed her to delve into operations management, which has further sparked her growing passion for efficient management of conservation operations. She can be contacted at hanis@justicewildlifemy.com.

Ormeila Debby Judy

Team Lead, Regional (Sabah)

Debby graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Conservation Biology from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and has always been deeply passionate about nature and wildlife. She is also a proud mom of five cats. Debby began her journey in the conservation field through research, where she learned and discovered the importance of looking at wildlife protection from many different angles. This curiosity led her to explore the legal side of conservation, which also opened the opportunity to work with Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM). Through this new path, Debby hopes to grow her understanding of the legal aspects of conservation and continue making a meaningful difference for the voiceless in our natural world at JWM. She can be contacted at debby@justicewildlifemy.com.

Ruzaini Che Husni

HR Coordinator

Prior to joining JWM, Ruzaini was an executive working in different industries, including healthcare. Due to her affection for wildlife, visiting a zoo or animal museum is a must every time she explores Malaysia or other countries. This later led her to JWM. Growing up in the concrete city of Kuala Lumpur, she strongly believes that everyone needs to play their role in healing the earth. Like Marvin Gaye said in his song Mercy Mercy Me, “things ain’t what they used to be.” The only way to protect the planet is to take action for our better future. She can be contacted at ruzaini@justicewildlifemy.com.

Rebecca Oi

Drafter

Rebecca Oi is a drafter officer with Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM). She supports the organisation’s legal and conservation work through research, drafting, and communication, drawing on her background in journalism, law, psychology, and governance. Her interests centre on how governance frameworks and clear documentation can strengthen enforcement and advance long-term wildlife protection in Malaysia.

She holds a PhD in Government Studies from an Australian university and a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Psychology. Her role at JWM brings together her academic training and professional experience to address the challenges of wildlife crime and conservation in Malaysia. She can be contacted at rebecca@justicewildlifemy.com.

Nur Dini Zulkifli

Research Analyst

At Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM), Nur Dini acts as analyst who analyzes wildlife related-court data to study how legal systems address wildlife crime and how they might be made more effective. With research experience in molecular biology, including projects on snake venoms and plants used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, she brings a scientific approach to complex legal and conservation challenges. Years earlier, a visit to the Biodiversity Institute exposed her to the devastating realities of poaching and deepened her concern for wildlife welfare while her longstanding curiosity about forensics, crime profiling, and criminal justice never seemed like a career path. Those threads eventually converged, leading her to JWM, where she now combines an analytical mindset with a commitment to wildlife conservation. Beyond her role, she is an avid reader who enjoys analyzing books for their subtleties, themes, lore, and worldbuilding. She can be contacted at nurdini@justicewildlifemy.com.

Syera Hareza Razine

Research Analyst

Syera graduated with a Bachelor of Geography (Hons) with distinction from the University of Malaya. Her studies built a strong foundation in ecosystems, human-environment interactions, and spatial analysis, shaping her perspective on the importance of conservation. Before joining Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM), she gained experience in different workplaces, including a conservation organisation, where she supported policy research and GIS mapping to guide conservation and land-use planning. Syera enjoys beautiful landscapes and watching animals, sometimes even through videos, which inspire her and remind her of the lessons nature can teach. Grateful to contribute to wildlife conservation, she believes everyone has a part to play in protecting the environment, and this passion now drives her work at JWM. She can be contacted at syera@justicewildlifemy.com.

Kartialiny Sivadahasan

Project Officer

Kartialiny supports Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM), where she works on strengthening legal frameworks, policy development, and conservation advocacy. A former lawyer by training, she was a civil litigator and served as in-house counsel in various organisations before shifting her focus to conservation. Driven by a passion for protecting wildlife and ensuring laws create real impact on the ground, she joined JWM to help bridge the gap between policy and practice. Outside of work, Kartialiny enjoys exploring new places, volunteering, and connecting with communities. She can be contacted at kartialiny@justicewildlifemy.com.

Carl Sebastian Jim

Case Tracker

Carl graduated with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) from the University of London. Prior to joining Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM), Carl was a conveyancing paralegal. His passion and interest of both wildlife and the law has led him to joining JWM as a case tracker based in Sarawak. Carl believes that by bridging the awareness of public and the law would ensure a more effective method of conservation work. His interests include hitting the gym, outdoor physical activities and binge-watching movies. He can  be contacted at carl@justicewildlifemy.com.

Sebastian Christopher Wong

Case Tracker

Sebastian obtained his LLB from the University of London’s (UOL) international programme. Born and raised in Sabah, his appreciation for the region’s biodiversity (especially its plant life) can be traced to his childhood days. This interest intensified during the height of the pandemic, when he realised that his ephemeral existence would not be well-lived were he not to give his passion a shot. He then switched over to the biological sciences to pursue a BSc in Biology at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

As part of the Sabah team for Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM)’s Borneo chapter, he tracks wildlife crime cases in court and works with his colleagues to gather data on the transgressions committed against Sabah’s natural heritage. He remains passionate about botany, especially plant taxonomy, and continues to work toward his goal of becoming a full-time research botanist. He can be contacted at sebastian@justicewildlifemy.com.

Uteh Arianna Abdul Jalil

Case Tracker

Uteh is reading law at University Malaya, with a strong track record in environmental and wildlife advocacy. She has worked with organizations like MareCet, SEATRU and Justice for Wildlife Malaysia (JWM), where she combined legal research with on-the-ground conservation efforts, from drafting policy papers to engaging governmental and non-governmental stakeholders. Presently, she provides assistance as case tracker under the Minerva initiative. As the former Director of ECOLAWGY UM, she led campaigns and collaborations that bridged law and environmental awareness. Beyond the legal field, Uteh thrives in community outreach and creative engagement, always driven by the belief that protecting nature starts with knowledge empowerment for communities from all walks of life.

Yazmeen Rai Sivayogam

Legal Intern

Yazmeen graduated with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) and have always been passionate about the natural world. Inspired by nature and marine documentaries that reveal how ocean and forest ecosystems regulate climate, support biodiversity and sustain life on Earth, she felt driven to play a part in conserving a sustainable future for generations to come, where both our greens and blues continue to thrive. Outside of work, she enjoys her time by crocheting, making music, baking and nurturing her lifelong love for orcas.
